19 Fun Activities When You’re Home With Your Kids

It’s no surprise that all of us are probably trying everything we can to keep our kids occupied now that they’re home from school for at least the next 3-4 weeks if not longer. If your kids are anything like mine, they have the attention span of maybe 2 seconds and then they’re ready for the next thing to do. So, today I’m sharing a list of things you can do with your kiddos while you’re stuck at home, and it should keep them occupied for at least a few hours!

  • Play Pictionary! – you can use dry erase markers so you don’t have to use up a bunch of paper too!
  • Have a dance party – my kids love listening to/watching Kids Bop Kids on YouTube and what’s great about it is that your kids can watch their videos while doing their own dance, and they can learn some of the dance moves they teach them to different songs
  • Play Hide-and-Seek
  • Have an Indoor Scavenger Hunt – you can use this list of things to find and add extra items too!
  • Make dinner together – not only will your kiddos have fun helping make dinner, but you can teach them a lot while you’re doing it too! Teach them about measurements, safety in the kitchen, and how to read recipes. It’s actually turned into one of Madilynn’s favorite things to do with me!
  • Turn your living room into a movie theater – don’t forget the popcorn! you can make it extra fun and make pretend movie tickets too!
  • Play hair or nail salon – This is great if you have little girls. You can give them different nail polish colors to choose from and ask them what kind of hair style they want
  • Have your kids put on a fashion show – whether they’re dressing up in costumes or wearing clothes right from your closet, it’ll keep them occupied! Plus you can see how they’d “style” themselves if you’re usually the one who puts their outfits together
  • Bake a sweet treat – a yummy snack is always a good idea, especially if you live somewhere where it’s raining most of the day like it’s been here. (PS, I have a delicious recipe coming for you guys soon so stay tuned!)
  • Invest in Giant Coloring Pages – these are a life saver you guys. the pages are huge so it takes the kids a while to color just one. we’ve gotten Disney Princess pages, Toy Story 4 pages, Paw Patrol, Shimmer and Shine, and Trolls, and they’re probably one of the best investments EVER!
  • Turn on Kids Yoga on YouTube – there are tons of cute videos they can watch and follow along with while getting their energy out, stretching, and having fun!
  • Play “Draw Yourself” – get a roll of wide Kraft paper, have your kids lay down on it and you trace out their body. Then, they pick out whatever they want to color with, i.e. crayons, markers, colored pencils, and they can draw on their clothes, hair, face, etc!
  • Do a puzzle – this is by far the activity that will take up the most time. Depending on how many pieces you want to get, it could be something that you can do a little bit of each day, or you can do one puzzle in a day. I definitely recommend looking on Amazon or in stores like Walmart or Target for the best deals!
  • Make a giant word search – this is a lot of fun too! I’ll have a DIY post on this soon so keep an eye out!
  • Create a Laser Obstacle Course in your hallway – you can use streamer rolls and some tape to put them up!
  • Color outside with chalk
  • Go on a walk and do an outdoor scavenger hunt – have your kiddos find different colored leaves, a stick longer than their arm, see how many different kinds of bugs they can find, etc.
  • Make geometric chalk art on your fence – DIY post coming on this too!
  • Build a blanket fort – pro tip, use a fitted sheets to go at the tops of chairs if you use them, that way they won’t slip off! load up with cozy blankets and all the pillows

I hope you all found this post helpful! I know it’s tough being home with the kiddos especially when they seem to have endless amounts of energy, but hopefully this will help to keep them occupied at least a little longer.

What kinds of activities do you do with your kids at home?? If you do something else that I didn’t mention in the list above, please share with us in the comments! Us mamas have to stick together!
